About the studio · 401 Post Avenue, Lyndhurst

Texture.

…is the whole sale.

Indie skincare keeps getting photographed like hardware. Front, back, white sweep, next. But nobody falls for a balm because of its silhouette. They fall for the way it breaks under a thumb, the slow drop of an oil off a pipette, the moment a gel cream turns from matte to glass.

So that’s what Dovella shoots. Every still, every flat-lay, every 15-second loop that leaves Post Avenue exists to prove one thing: how your product feels.

Positions we hold

Five opinions we’ll defend on the phone.

Every studio claims it cares about quality. Fine. Here’s what we’re actually against — so you can tell in two minutes whether your brand belongs on our light table.

  1. White seamless is a starting point, not a personality.

Marketplaces demand the white set, so we shoot it clean and fast. Then we spend the rest of your pack on the frames that make a thumb stop mid-scroll.

  2. Day rates reward slow studios.

You pay for the pack — $400 to $1,400 — not for our hours. If an airless pump takes forty minutes to prime, that’s our afternoon, not your invoice.

  3. Mood decks are overrated. One sentence isn’t.

“Smells like a cedar sauna” sets the light, the props and the color temperature. Thirty slides of other brands’ photos sets nothing except a copy.

  4. Real botanicals or nothing.

If your INCI says rosehip, we don’t paste a stock rosehip into the frame. We buy the fruit, slice it, and shoot it next to your bottle.

  5. Fifteen seconds is plenty.

A loop that pumps, smears and lands on your logo at second fifteen gets replayed. A ninety-second brand film gets skipped at second three.

Disagree with one? Good. Argue it with us.

Why the studio exists

Built for brands that fill bottles at midnight.

Most product studios are built for catalogs. Forty SKUs, white sweep, same angle, next. That math works for a hardware brand. It quietly wrecks a skincare brand, because a face oil photographed like a socket wrench looks like it costs what a socket wrench costs.

Dovella is the opposite bet. One room on Post Avenue in Lyndhurst, a back-lit glass table, a wall of seamless rolls, and a fridge that holds nothing but other people’s serums. We shoot small batches for small brands, slowly enough to catch the thing that actually sells: how it moves.

The box is the brief.

We built everything around the mail because the founders we want to shoot for can’t lose a day standing behind a camera. They’re pouring batches at night, chasing a wholesale order at lunch, and launching on a date a retailer chose for them. So the packing slip became the creative brief, the photos of your box arriving became the first status update, and the price became one number agreed before the tape comes off.

And what we won’t do is hand you a template. Every pack starts from the line you wrote on the slip — “smells like a cedar sauna,” “tastes like a lemon bar,” “feels like the first cold morning” — and gets lit to match it. Same light table, same rules taped above it, a different answer every time.

On the light table

No presets. Just the bench.

There isn’t a filter in this room that does the work for us. These are the objects that make a balm break cleanly and an oil fall on the beat.

  • Back-lit glass sheet

For drips and smears that glow from underneath — the reason our serums look lit from inside.

  • Glass pipettes

So an oil drops on our count, not gravity’s. Loop timing starts here.

  • Palette knife

The single clean swipe through a balm in every texture macro.

  • Fine mister

Dew on a jar without fogging the label you paid a designer for.

  • Turntable

The slow spin marketplaces love, shot in one continuous move.

  • Cold box

Fridge-only formulas stay stable right up until the lights go on. Warn us and it’s ready.

Not every brand should ship to us. Here’s the line.

We’d rather lose a booking than shoot the wrong one badly. If you land in the right-hand column, we’ll happily point you somewhere better.

Box it up if…

  • You have one to five SKUs and a launch date you can’t move.
  • Your product has a texture worth showing off — a whip, a slip, a drip, a shimmer.
  • You’d rather agree one number up front than decode a quote with six line items.
  • You can’t spare a day to stand in a studio in New Jersey — and shouldn’t have to.

Call someone else if…

  • You need full-face models or a bathroom lifestyle set. We do hands only — a hand model is a +$140 bolt-on.
  • You need forty SKUs on white by Friday. That’s a catalog house, and they’re good at it.
  • You want us to invent your brand from zero. We bring light and opinions, not a logo.
  • It isn’t skincare or wellness. A body candle, maybe. Car wax, no.

Somewhere in between? Most brands are. Ring (201) 945-9566 and describe the jar — we’ll tell you straight which pack fits, or that none does.

The front desk

Ring before you ship. A human picks up.

Five minutes on the phone saves a box of the wrong SKUs. Call with your launch date and your jar count; we’ll name the pack and pencil in a shoot week while you’re still on the line.
